Pulse and vining pea growers have a huge amount of new information and opportunities available to them at CropTec 2023, which is being held at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire on 29 and 30 November.
The 2024 Descriptive List (DL) for combining peas and beans – as well as the DL for vining peas – will be launched on 27 November, meaning the show is the first opportunity growers will have to meet experts from the Processors and Growers Research Organisation (PGRO) to discuss the results.
Since last year’s event, PGRO has also announced the start of the Nitrogen Climate Smart (NCS) Project – an ambitious initiative which aims to quadruple the UK pulse cropping area.
Farmers who already grow combining beans and peas, or who could introduce them to their rotation, are being urged to engage in the project by becoming Pulse Pioneers. Anyone who participates in trials for the project is paid for their work, and even those who don’t conduct trials will benefit from the knowledge and information sharing over the three years.
Experts on stand also have another year’s worth of findings to draw upon from carrying out intercropping trials, as well as new information about pest, disease and weed control in pea and bean crops.
